Wheelbarrow Planter

Do you have an old wheelbarrow that is no longer functioning for hauling things? Well, the good news is that old wheelbarrow can make a beautiful large planter.

We took an old wheelbarrow that had wheel issues and a crack and turned it into this fun flower planter.

First, we had to paint the wheelbarrow. We gave the upper edge of the wheelbarrow a couple of coats of a burgundy paint (we didn't paint all the way down inside of the wheelbarrow since no one would be seeing all the way down due to dirt and plants). Then we lightly sanded the outside of the wheelbarrow, gave it two coats of white primer - followed by two coats of white paint. We finished with a fun farm stencil in a green paint.

Next, we needed to drill some holes in the bottom of the wheelbarrow for water drainage. You'll want to find the area that dips down the furthest in the bottom of the wheelbarrow and drill a few holes to allow water to drain out. We also added some rocks to that area of the wheelbarrow before adding our dirt to the wheelbarrow to help with the water drainage.

Finally, we got to the really fun part of adding our flowers and were all set to enjoy our beautiful upcycled wheelbarrow turned planter. With a little creativity and work, you can turn your old wheelbarrow into a beautiful new planter too!
